The California Student Aid Commission is urging community college students to submit their financial aid applications by Sept. 3. That’s the deadline for all types of financial aid, including the Cal Grant, which doesn’t need to be paid back.
What am I filling out?
- U.S citizens should fill out the FAFSA. Here's the form. And here's what you'll need.
- Undocumented students must complete the California Dream Act Application. Here's the form.
What if I need help? The commission is hosting one last Cash for College webinar on Sept. 3. Here's how to watch.

There were problems with all these forms this year. What's the impact been? Back in July, CSAC said there had been a nearly 16% drop in California Dream Act applications (4,940), and a 6% drop for FAFSA. In a statement on Thursday, CSAC said that so far this year, the state has received 40,000 fewer financial aid applications compared to last year, meaning a lot of money could get left on the table.
