Downtown Is Getting A W Hotel By The Staples Center
One of downtown L.A.'s many new projects is a new, 250-room W Hotel near the Staples Center. Downtown's already got a number of swanky hotels, including The Standard, The Ace, plus an upcoming 148-room boutique hotel called the Proper.
However, the demand for new lodging hasn't quite been satisfied. The new W Hotel is part of developer Shenzhen Hazens’ $700 million renovation of the Luxe Hotel in South Park, right across from the L.A. Live, according to DTLA Rising. In addition to the 30-story W Hotel at 11th and Figueroa, there will also be two new residential buildings—a 30-story condo at 11th and Flower and a taller, 42-story condo where the Luxe Hotel is now.
Hazens is scheduled to break ground on the hotel in 2017, and it should be open in 2019.
This area surrounding Staples Center and the L.A. Convention Center is booming. The J.W. Marriott L.A. Live is getting an expansion and a Hotel Indigo is opening nearby. The nearby Hotel Figueroa is getting a $30 million Mediterranean renovation.
