Body Found At Dockweiler State Beach Identified As Missing Culver City Man

Police today released a statement identifying the man whose body was found last week at Dockweiler State Beach.
On June 10, 2013 at approximately 9:00 p.m., 79-year-old Jose Muniz was reported missing at the Culver City Police Department by a family member, Lt Jason Sims said in press release.
Muniz had walked away from a local hospital where he was being treated hours earlier. He was immediately entered into the missing persons database, a systematic grid search for Muniz was conducted, and the information was shared with surrounding police agencies.
His unidentified body was found June 11 by beach-goers, who then flagged down nearby lifeguards.
It wasn't until June 16 that the Culver City Police Department was contacted by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office. After contacting Muniz’ family, it was determined that the man found at the beach Jose Muniz. The investigation into Muniz’ death is being handled by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Cause of death has not yet been released.
