Design*Sponge Gives a LA Thumbs Up

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

Back in March, LAist contributor Julie Wolfson interviewed Design*Sponge's Grace Bonney. Among the questions was...

Soon you will be in LA for the first time. What are you looking forward to doing while you are here? Oh man, first of all I'm looking to get out of cold, grey Brooklyn and get into the sun. But mostly I'm just looking to soak up a new city, new culture and take in as much as possible. I tend to eat my way through new cities so I'm psyched to try new restaurants and bakeries.

Today, Grace is back in New York with a report on how her first Los Angeles experience went:
late last night i returned from los angeles and what could only be described as a trip that left me smiling ear to ear and wanting to come back to LA as soon as possible. as a new yorker, we’re sort of taught to dislike LA but I fell into deep like with the city right away. the weather, the people (so friendly!), the history- it was such an incredible place to spend two jam-packed days... i’ll definitely be back in LA as soon as i can. i think the sunny weather-bug has bitten me and i’m dying to ride around in a convertible again looking at houses in the hollywood hills. thank you again to everyone in LA.

Wolfson, who helped tour the city with Bonney said, "my main goal was that Grace would love her first trip to LA -- success!!" Indeed, success it was, here here!

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
