Man Stalked Then Gunned Down After Refusing To Pay $500 In Car Crash, Police Say

One year ago, Congress defunded public media. Now that we're 100% community funded, please become a sustaining member or increase your existing membership today.

A 51-year-old man was stalked then gunned down over the weekend in Willowbrook after he got into a car crash and refused to pay the other driver $500 on the spot, police say. When Darrell Orlando Daniels got into a car crash at Main Street and El Segundo Boulevard on Saturday evening, he tried to exchange information with the other driver, the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. told the L.A. Times. However, the driver allegedly refused to share his information and demanded Daniels pay him $500 for the damages to his car. While they were talking, Daniels apparently saw a gun in the driver's car, and decided to leave the scene and drive home.

That's when the driver followed Daniels to his home located on the 200 block of East 121st Street and once again demanded Daniels pay him the money, authorities said. When Daniels refused, the driver left, only to return an hour later around 6:30 p.m. to find Daniels in his car in his driveway. The driver allegedly fired several rounds at Daniels, hitting him in his upper body, before running away eastbound on 121st Street, towards San Pedro.

Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deputies are still searching for the suspect. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
