Authorities are investigating the discovery of a deceased female whose body was stashed in the trunk of a vehicle at a local tow yard.

Through a joint effort between Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detectives and the Azusa Police Department, an investigation remains ongoing into the woman's death, according to the LASD.

The body was found Tuesday evening inside a red Honda Accord that had been towed to the yard after an Azusa man noticed the vehicle parked on his property and arranged to have it taken away.

The tow truck driver discovered the female corpse at the tow yard. Paramedics were called to the scene, however the woman was declared dead. "Azusa Police Department personnel and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau were called to investigate the suspicious death," explains the LASD, adding: "It is unknown at this time how the woman's body got into the trunk of the car or what was the cause of her death."

An autopsy is pending to determine the deceased's identity and cause of death.
