The Los Angeles Police Department say they have taken a juvenile into custody in connection with the shooting of a teen boy in Pacoima Thursday.

The victim, a 13-year-old, was shot in the face. Initially authorities suspected a possible suicide attempt or an accident. Suicide has been ruled out as a factor in the incident that left the boy critically injured, according to the LAPD, reports City News Service.

In the aftermath of the shooting, one person was detained at the scene, while at least two others fled on foot. It is not clear if the person the LAPD has in custody is any of those individuals.

"A person is in custody, but that person is a juvenile so I can't release any information,'' said Lt. Robert Davis of the Foothill Station.
