Malibu’s Franklin Fire is now completely contained
Topline:
The Franklin Fire, which scorched more than 4,000 acres in Malibu, is now 100% contained, according to CalFire.
Why it matters: Crews continued to bring the flames under control over the past week-and-a-half after the fire destroyed 20 structures and damaged 28 others, about half of which were homes.
The backstory: The Franklin Fire started shortly before 11 p.m. last Monday near Malibu Canyon Road and Station Boundary, according to L.A. County fire officials.
What's next: Residents can get assistance at a Recovery Center in City Hall, which is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. City Planning and Environmental Sustainability officials will be able to answer questions about rebuilding, permitting, debris removal, and anything else related to the fire. The cause is still under investigation. State Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin also said she’ll continue to press for an emergency proclamation by Gov. Gavin Newsom during a town hall Wednesday evening so people can have access to all state resources and relief programs.
