Good morning and welcome back to Monday. In the forecast for the Southland — another hot day, with some cooling along the coasts.

Desert communities will continue to bear the brunt of the heat wave. The high desert will reach up to 104 degrees, with up to 112 for Coachella Valley. The heat is expected to break by 8 p.m.

Inland areas will see highs in the upper 80s to 90s. The inland coast will be in the mid 80s including Long Beach and more along the beaches, expect highs in the mid 70s.

There's a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms for the mountains at higher elevations and high desert.

Tonight's lows will drop to the upper 60s, 70s for the deserts.

The good news is that after today, forecasters say it will be cooler during the week through Thursday. But this weekend expect another round of summer heat.
