Friday's forecast brings more cool and partly cloudy weather, but enjoy this brief winter wonderland while it lasts, because come tomorrow a warming trend begins.

Quick Facts

  • Today’s weather: cool, sunny
  • Beaches: 60s-70s
  • Mountains/deserts:50s/54-70
  • Inland: 60s
  • Warnings and advisories: Wind Advisory

Windy weather persists along the mountains and some major highway and freeway corridors for this morning, but those winds are expected to die down by afternoon.

Coastal weather will remain fairly cool in the upper 60s to low 70s. In downtown Los Angeles, expect a high of 69. Valley highs will be mid 60s — the same goes for inland areas such as Riverside and San Bernardino.

In Orange County, expect a high of 67.

Over in the high desert, temperatures are much cooler with a high of 54 degrees, up to 70 degrees in the low desert.

Taking a look ahead: A warming trend begins for Saturday leading into next week where temperatures will rise up between 4 to 8 degrees above this week's average.

About those advisories

A wind advisory is out for most of Southern California — expect wind speeds to reach between 25 to 35 mph, up to 55 mph. Here's a list of where those advisories are and what time the winds are expected to let up:

  • Western San Gabriel Mountains and Highway 14 Corridor (3 p.m.)
  • Interstate 5 Corridor and Western Antelope Valley (10 a.m.)
  • Santa Clarita Valley (10 a.m.)

This day in history

On this day in 2011, San Bernardino experienced strong winds up to 70 mph that turned over a few trucks on the I-15 and I-210 freeways.

Things to do

It's Food Friday! Here's a few foodie and holiday themed events to check out today:

  • La Virgen de Guadalupe, Dios Inantzin: The Latino Theater Company returns with its signature holiday pageant. Adapted for the stage by Evelina Fernández from the mid-16th century text, The Nican Mopohua, and directed by José Luis Valenzuela, the show shares the story of a peasant who in 1531 was visited by the Virgin Mary. The city’s largest Christmas pageant includes more than 100 actors, singers and indigenous Aztec dancers as well as children and seniors from the community. Performances are in Spanish with English supertitles.
  • If you're looking for ways to entertain your out-of-town guests during the holidays, you can't go wrong taking them to Mid-City. But after visiting the Urban Light Installation at LACMA or the Batmobile at the Petersen Automotive Museum, you will work up an appetite.
Check out my colleague Gab Chabrán's Cheap Fast Easts guide for the Mid-City where you can choose from the best smash burgers, to mariscos and pizza.
  • For our Orange County readers, if you're looking for a new place to shop for some fresh produce, check out Mercado Gonzalez. My colleague Jill Replogle takes you on a deep dive about this dining hall/grocery store experience in Costa Mesa.

Our hard-hitting watchdog reporting on local government, climate, and the ongoing housing and homelessness crisis is trustworthy, independent and freely accessible to everyone thanks to the support of readers like you.

We want to assure you that despite growing threats to free press and free speech, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust. Speaking frankly, the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news in our community.

We’re asking you to stand up for independent reporting that will not be silenced. With more individuals like you supporting this public service, we can continue to provide essential coverage for Southern Californians that you can’t find anywhere else.
