Southern California may be going through a mini heat wave, but before seeking relief at the beach, beware.

L.A. County public health officials are urging residents to avoid going in the water at seven local beaches after bacteria levels were found to exceed safe levels under state standards.

Which beaches are under bacteria warnings?

  • Solstice Creek at Dan Blocker County Beach in Malibu (100 yards up and down the coast from the creek).
  • Walnut Creek at Paradise Cove in Malibu (100 yards up and down the coast from the creek).
  • Ramirez Creek at Paradise Cove in Malibu (100 yards up and down the coast from the pier).
  • The Bel Air Bay Club at Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades (100 yards up and down the coast from the club border fence).
  • Mothers Beach in Marina Del Rey (entire swim area).
  • Castlerock Storm Drain at Topanga County Beach in Malibu (100 yards up and down the coast from the storm drain).
  • Santa Monica Pier in Santa Monica (100 yards up and down the coast from the pier).

Is there a map of affected beaches?

Yes, and it’s available here, by scrolling down to the map and zooming into the yellow place markers.

Recorded information on beach conditions is also available by calling the county’s beach hotline at (800) 525-5662.
