  • Vitals details in the killings of two South LA residents who were found shot to death in their 11th Ave apartment remain unknown. The LAPD was notified late Monday afternoon of gunshots heard, and soon after discovered the bodies of Shelton Sumerall, 32, and Monica Youngblood, 23, both of whom suffered fatal shots to their heads. The motive and a shooting suspect have not been determined.
  • A Van Nuys man was stabbed yesterday when he refused to give $20 to a man who confronted him and demanded money. The police are still looking for the suspect, a Hispanic man said to be in his mid-thirties.
  • Police are also looking for the shooter in the death of 15-year-old Hollywood High student Diego Cruz who was killed Christmas Eve in Hollywood.
  • Joshua Blackburn, the CHP officer was scheduled to be arraigned today for the theft of about $1 million dollars worth of cocaine from the evidence room of the CHP offices in Santa Ana.
  • Brrrr! A high-wind watch goes into effect this evening that will last through tomorrow afternoon. Winds in the city are anticipated to be only within the 15-25 mph range, however in the coastal range--including the Hollywood HIlls--residents could see winds of 30-40 mph, and up to 65 mph below canyons and passes.
  • A 13 year old kid in Thousand Oaks was stoked to get a PlayStation 3 for Christmas yesterday morning, worth about $500, but his excitement was cut short when he opened the box and found only a phone book inside. The gift was bought at EB Games in Thousand Oaks, and the matter was resolved between the kid's parents and the store.
  • Our friends at SFist have been keeping an eye on the story of the tiger who killed 17-year-old Carlos Souza and mauled two others Christmas Day at the SF Zoo. Reports about the fatal incident include the Zoo's official statement.
  • Celebrity heiress and scandal-monger Paris Hilton might need to check out some classes at DeVry or beauty school, since it was reported today that her Grandfather has pledged 97% of his massive estate to charity. 80-year-old hotel magnate Barron Hilton will be giving away $2.3 billion instead of passing it down to his heirs, including gossip column darling granddaughter Paris. Yeah, my heart bleeds.
  • An 18-year-old hiker near Vanowen at Valley Circle in the West Valley fell 30 feet, prompting a helicopter hoist rescue by the LA Fire Department. Luckily, the hiker only suffered some minor head trauma and a fractured leg.
