Early Tuesday morning, singer Christina Aguilera was taken into custody by Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Deputies in West Hollywood following a traffic stop . The LASD say that the driver, Aguilera's boyfriend Matthew Rutler, was pulled over at 2:45 a.m. in the 1100 block of Clark Street on suspicion of drunk driving. Rutler was determined to be driving while under the influence of alcohol and arrested.

Meanwhile, the passenger--Christina Aguilera--was also determined to be drunk, and because the LASD deputies feared she could not "care for her safety and no one was available to ensure her safety," the songstress was taken into custody.

The LASD note that Xtina was "not involved in any criminal activity and [would] be released when she can safely care for herself." The LA Times reports Aguilera was being released this morning on $250 bail.
