Call to Action: Bloggers & Readers Making Change in LA

"Some asshole threw this cart into the LA River. How do I get someone to pick it up?"

This story is free to read because readers choose to support LAist. If you find value in independent local reporting, make a donation to power our newsroom today.

Here at LAist, we're always happy to take leads and tips from out tips@laist.com box about issues you are having in your neighborhood, commute, etc. We were happy to see our Orange Line post get picked up and now being worked on by the city and we are always looking for more issues to be brought to light.

Another good example is today with Damien Newton at StreetsblogLA who got the city to take down erroneous signs telling pedestrians they cannot cross the street in Westwood.

There's a lot that be improved upon in the City of Los Angeles and sometimes it just takes speaking up to get it fixed and sometimes it takes a little more (or a lot of) button pushing. Our neighborhoods are great places to live, but they can be better too. With that said, now or in the future, let us know how we might be able to help you (and in turn, educating other LAist readers) by commenting on this post or e-mailing us at tips@laist.com.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive from readers like you will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
