Brandon Walsh 4 President!

Truth matters. Community matters. Your support makes both possible. LAist is one of the few places where news remains independent and free from political and corporate influence. Stand up for truth and for LAist. Make your year-end tax-deductible gift now.

The first time I saw you dear class of '93, I knew I had to have you for my very own. Now, after a mere 5874 days, you are mine. Those other DVDs on my shelf? They mean nothing to me, baby. Nothing! The past sixteen years are like a bad dream. I only have eyes for you. Come to mama.

TODAY: The complete first seasons of Bev 9er (that’s ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ for those more formal) and Melrose Place are now available on DVD .

Last Friday, a few familiar faces showed up at the Beverly Hills Hilton for a red-carpet DVD launch party in celebration of this milestone. Representing LAist's mega think tank, I attended in my finest designer duds (see: pegged jeans and bloused floral top) to greet and fawn over our favorite rich kids.

Laguna Beach, eat your heart out.

Photos, fun facts, and red carpet shenanigans after the jump…

Wedged between journalists and camera crews from Variety, Reuters, and US Weekly I go largely unnoticed as each seems to assume I’m affiliated with the other.

Not sure where to stand or what to do, I attempt to blend.

Up close is the place to be.

This mic-stand of a man is terribly entertaining as he giddily refuses to engage the cast as human beings, addressing them exclusively by character names and asking only questions about their fictitious lives. Most are amused or playing along. Jennie Garth, not so much. She is kind of scared.

You come to LAist because you want independent reporting and trustworthy local information. Our newsroom doesn’t answer to shareholders looking to turn a profit. Instead, we answer to you and our connected community. We are free to tell the full truth, to hold power to account without fear or favor, and to follow facts wherever they lead. Our only loyalty is to our audiences and our mission: to inform, engage, and strengthen our community.

Right now, LAist has lost $1.7M in annual funding due to Congress clawing back money already approved. The support we receive before year-end will determine how fully our newsroom can continue informing, serving, and strengthening Southern California.
