The Best Sex Toy Shops In Los Angeles

The local news you read here every day is crafted for you, but right now, we need your help to keep it going. In these uncertain times, your support is even more important. The stigma of an adult shop used to be a dimly lit, seedy shop near a truck-stop, stocked with questionable DVDs and garish toys. You'd enter through a covert door and leave with an opaque, plastic bag. That's not so true anymore. As our culture relaxes about sex (as the Hustler tagline suggests), adult toy shops have taking on a welcoming demeanor, with nurturing staff, bawdy classes and no judgement. Los Angeles has shops for every fetish and persuasion, and here are some of our favorites. As always, feel free to leave your favorites in the comments.

The Pleasure Chest (Photo via Facebook")

The Pleasure ChestThis West Hollywood store has a healthy selection of everything. Whatever you’re into, you can probably find it here. The shop is is clean with a sleek red and black decor, without any of that truck stop sex store raunchiness. Weekly classes and comedy can educate or entertain. What kinds of classes do they host? Oh, you know, just ‘Butt Sex for Beginners’ or ‘Advanced Anal with Damon Holzum.’ Which is kind of what this spot is all about: you can grab some massage oil for a romantic date, or a giant plastic fist for… you know, whatever, but still feel at ease among their knowledgable, judgement-free staff.

Hustler HollywoodHustler Hollywood, like PleasureChest, has a little bit of everything. Lingerie, toys, magazines, videos, weekly classes and even a little cafe where you could take your Tinder date for coffee—if they're into that sort of thing. Located on the Sunset Strip, this original Hustler branch can be tourist-y, but it's also planning a big move. It was recently announced that House of Blues is being torn down sometime in the next three years and that Hustler is moving to make way for luxury hotels. A bummer for sure, but still plenty of time to get in your Hustler fix.

Hustler Hollywood is located at 8929 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood. Sun.-Thurs., 11 a.m. - 2 a.m.; Fri. & Sat., 9 a.m. - 2 a.m.

Stockroom/Syren (Photo via Facebook)

Stockroom/SyrenThis Silver Lake sex shop caters to the whips & chains crowd. Restraints, latex, masks, whips, blindfolds and other kinky devices can be found here. They carry a full boutique of fetish ware for Halloween, sultry events or private play, as well as a number of lifestyle accessories and accoutrement. Twice a year, they have a rummage sale where you can bargain hunt for an $8 speculum, or a $5 collar to let other doms and subs on the prowl know you're taken.

The Stockroom/Syren Retail Boutique is located at 2809 1/2 W Sunset Blvd. in Silver Lake. Daily, Noon to 10 p.m.

Rough TradeRough Trade in Silver Lake is for the local leather daddy (and boys). Located appropriately close to Eagle L.A., this shop specializes in leather gear and toys for men. They sell magazines, toys, clothes, and fetish gear like many shops, but what's unique about RT is the custom and off-the-rack leather gear: harnesses, chaps, shirts, pants, formal ties, cuffs, bands, jockstraps and more. Not keen on leather, but still want to be a daddy? They have Neoprene, too.

Rough Trade Leather & Gear is located at 3915 Sunset Blvd. in Silver Lake. Sun.-Tues., Noon to 9 p.m., Weds., Noon to 10 p.m., Thurs., Noon to 11 p.m., Fri., Noon to Midnight, Sat., 10 a.m. to Midnight.

Pure Delish (Photo by Juliet Bennett Rylah/LAist)

Pure DelishCatering predominantly those who identify as being of the female persuasion, Pure Delish has a host of costume, club and fetish wear on hand. Styled mannequins show off outfits for dungeons, Burning Man, furry conventions and the bedroom, and clerks in frilly dresses can advise you on the shop's small, but well-curated selection of adult toys, lubricants and aids. The cutesy vibe and Culver City location make this a more laidback experience than the numerous club ware shops that line Hollywood Boulevard. (You can read about those here.)

Pure Delish is located at 10746 W. Washington Blvd. in Culver City. Sun.-Weds., Noon to 8 p.m.; Thurs., 11 a.m. - 9 p.m.; Fri. & Sat., 11 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Circus of Books, Silver Lake (Photo via Google Maps)

Circus of BooksCircus of Books is a bookshop, sure, but it's also got a sleazy size. Enter the Silver Lake location's 18+ Only Door and you'll find yourself in a room full of gay pulp and erotica novels, toys, gay magazines and a special bargain box of $3 posters (mostly, you guessed it, hot dudes). There's also a sizable DVD collection of both gay and straight porn, as well as some VHS options for those who want to watch skin flicks with the nostalgia of that slightly off-track, grainy mise en scène. Novelty items, smoking accessories and greeting cards can also be purchased here. You can expect the same sort of thing over at the WeHo location as well. Why, you can even browse their lube selection online.

Circus of Books is located at 8230 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. Open daily, 7:30 a.m. - 1 a.m. 4001 W. Sunset Blvd., Silver Lake. Openly Daily, 9 a.m. - 11 p.m.

Chi Chi LaRue's (Photo via chichilarues.com)

Chi Chi LaRue's
Owned by gay porn director and drag personality Chi Chi LaRue, this WeHo shop is a vast collection of toys and porn. It's touted as being gay-owned and operated, which makes sense given the location. The pink decor and friendly clerks make this place a fun spot, not a shady one. While the shop does cater to men, all gender identities can have fun browsing. The shop also sells novelties, apparel and smoking accessories.Chi Chi LaRue's is located at 8932 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood. Open Mon.-Wed., 10 a.m. to Midnight; Thurs.-Sun., 10 a.m. - 2 a.m.
