Here Are 3 Shows You've Never Heard Of — And You Should Absolutely Check Out This Weekend
SO many TV shows are being released right now, making it easy to miss the lesser-talked about ones that still may be totally worth the watch. You'll have to decide for yourself, of course.
This week on AirTalk, LAist 89.3's daily news show, Primetimer Editor-in-chief Danette Chavez broke down three shows.
Big Mood
Two young women, one with bipolar disorder, reckon with chaotic events that put their long-time friendship to the test. Chavez describes it as "HBO's Girls if it had been a two hander" and says it captures the messiness of the late 20s, early 30s chapter of life.
"There's also just something so distinctly millennial about this dramedy, like characters realizing that technology has actually hindered their ability to connect with people and just this feeling that you're always going to be playing catch up in your life." — Danette Chavez, editor-in-chief at Primetimer
When & where: The six-part series premieres April 19 on Tubi.
Dinner with the Parents
In this comedy that's giving "Curb Your Enthusiasm meets Modern Family" vibes, two brothers in their 20s go home to have dinner at their parents' house every week.
"What I enjoy most about the show is it captures how conflicted we can feel when we go home. Home is this place of comfort, but it's also, for some of us, a place of personal triumphs as much as humiliations." — Danette Chavez, editor-in-chief at Primetimer
When & where: The first four episodes are available now on Freevee, a streaming service owned by Amazon. New episodes release weekly.
Ctrl+Alt+Desire
Grant Amato was convicted of murdering his family after an obsessive relationship with an internet model. The documentary series examines what happened and why.
"The churn of true crime has led to a bunch of underdeveloped ideas and overlong projects, but I think this is an example of how personal the genre is becoming." — Danette Chavez, editor-in-chief at Primetimer
