Angel City women’s soccer team dressed in T-shirts that said “Immigrant City Football Club” before their game at BMO Stadium in Exposition Park on Saturday. According to the Associated Press, the team said some 10,000 shirts were also given out.

Solidarity with immigrants: In a post last week on Instagram, the team said they were “heartbroken by the fear and uncertainty many in our Los Angeles community are feeling right now.”

“We know that our city is stronger because of its diversity and the people and families who shape it, love it and call it home,” the team said in their statement.

Protests in LA: The move by the the National Women’s Soccer League Team came the same day as some 30,000 people took to the streets in L.A. for the “No Kings” rally and to protest the recent ICE sweeps across our region. It appears Angel City is the first of 11 major professional sports teams in L.A. to present a united front on the immigration actions in SoCal.
