A Portion Of The 710 Freeway Will Be Closed All Weekend
Another weekend in Los Angeles, another freeway closure.Starting Friday night, a segment of the Long Beach Freeway in East Los Angeles will be closed for 54 hours as part of an ongoing pavement replacement project. The northbound lanes of the 710 freeway between the 60 freeway and the 5 freeway will be shut down from 10 p.m. on Friday night to 4 a.m. on Monday morning.
The crews will be doing some heavy duty work; 140 concrete panels, each 26 feet wide, will be laid down this weekend.
Caltrans will be posting detour signs and advises drivers to use the 110 freeway or the 605 freeway as alternate routes. Locally, traffic will be diverted onto Eastern Avenue.
And don't think this is just a one-time deal. There'll be three more weekends of 54-hour closures after this one. Don't say we didn't warn you.
The work is part of an $120 million pavement-replacement project that started five years ago. The project is aimed at replacing pavement and making improvements on a 9-mile stretch of the Long Beach Freeway between the 105 and 10 freeways. As you'd expect, the number of cars on the freeway in Los Angeles does a number on the surfaces, so it's just due maintenance that Caltrans will be doing. "This definitely addresses damage on the roads. There's a lot of truck traffic there, so we've been gradually rehabilitating it," Caltrans spokesperson Lauren Wonder told LAist when they closed the same stretch of roadway back in September.
