A New Shuttle At Griffith Park Will Take You From The Zoo To The Observatory For Free

Good news for Griffith Park fans: You no longer need a car to travel from the zoo to the observatory to the Autry Museum to the trailhead of your favorite hiking spot.

Starting Saturday, Dec. 7, the Griffith Parkline shuttle will transport visitors between 12 stops throughout the park for free.

"For the first time in its 123-year history, visitors can access all that Griffith Park has to offer without once needing a car," said city councilman David Ryu.

The Griffith Parkline will run from noon to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and pick up passengers every 15 to 20 minutes. The green-and-white buses are equipped with bike racks and are ADA accessible with seating for 25 people.

Here is a list of the shuttle stops and nearby attractions:

• Traveltown: Travel Town Transportation Museum, Los Angeles Equestrian Center
• LA Steamers: Los Angeles Live River Steamers Railroad Museum
• Pecan Grove (northbound only): Pecan Grove Picnic Area
• Autry Museum (northbound only): Autry Museum of the American West, Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens
• LA Zoo (southbound only): Autry Museum of the American West, Los Angeles Zoo & Botanical Gardens
• Park Center: Park Center Picnic Area, Shane's Inspiration, Old Zoo Picnic Area
• Ranger Station: Visitor's Center, Merry-Go-Round, Crystal Springs Picnic Area
• Pony/Train Rides: Train and pony rides
• Los Feliz & Riverside: Griffith Park Recreation Center, Aqueduct Centennial Garden
• Greek Theatre: Greek Theatre, DASH bus stop
• Commonwealth: Franklin's Cafe, Roosevelt Municipal Golf Course, playground
• Mt. Hollywood (drop-off only): Hike to Hollywood sign viewpoints

DASH bus stops are already in place at the Griffith Observatory and at the Greek Theatre and connect to the Vermont/Sunset Red Line Station. Those run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends, as well as noon to 10 p.m. on weekdays.

The new shuttle system is part of a yearslong effort by Ryu and L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti to expand car-free access to Griffith Park. Paid parking near the Observatory helped fund the shuttle, according to the press release.
