Small Plane Lands On 405 Freeway Short Of John Wayne Airport Runway [Updated]

A small plane landed on the 405 freeway in Irvine on Friday morning, short of the runway at John Wayne Airport. According to a tweet from the airport, the Cessna 310 landed on the freeway at 9:35 a.m. "Our guys are out there, but we don't have any information yet," a spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol, Santa Ana office, told LAist. KTLA reports that two passengers were hospitalized with "traumatic injuries" and no other vehicles on the freeway were struck.

The freeway was originally closed in both directions at MacArthur Boulevard due to debris on the roadway, but the northbound lanes have since reopened. The airport is currently closed to arrivals, but departing flights are not affected.
