27-Year-Old Woman Charged With Murder of Ex-Boyfriend's 2-Year-Old Son
After telling officials that the toddler in her care fell to his death down a flight of stairs, a Long Beach woman will be charged with the 2-year-old's murder, reports the Long Beach Press Telegram. Jennifer Marie Garcia, 27, was watching her then-boyfriend's son in 2006 when she allegedly fatally shook and beat him. He was placed on life support and died the following day.
Garcia told investigators at a local hospital that the boy had fallen down a set of concrete steps outside his apartment building, and a defense expert noted that his bruises were consistent with such a fall during a preliminary hearing held today.
However, experts called to testify on behalf of the prosecution said that marks and injuries on the boys face were indicative of his having been hit with a hand or a flat object.
According to the Telegram, Garcia will face arraignment on July 27, and is free on bail.
