Pencil This In: 'Betty Goes Vegan' Book Signing, Red Hen Press Poetry and Music by Matmos, Haley Pharo and More

There's a number of interesting music concerts happening in LA tonight, including music by Matmos; Haley Pharo, an eclectic School Night lineup and a new monthly showcase of independent music artists. There's also a vegan cookbook signing and a poetry reading by the beach. Read on for all the details.

MUSIC SHOWCASE
The first L.A. Independent Artist Showcase takes place at The Hayworth Theatre tonight, hosted by Syrus from MTV’s Real World. Tonight’s performers are: Andrè DePriest, 9inety1, The MuSkRaTs, Iris Leonardo and Andre Timberlake. Doors at 630 pm, show at 7 pm. Beer and wine bar. Tickets $10.

POETRY / PERFORMANCE
Poets from Red Hen Press recite / perform at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica tonight at 6:30 pm. Scheduled poets are Amy Gerstler, Douglas Kearney and Brynn Saito. Admission is free; parking at the Beach House is $3/hour or $8 all day.

VEGAN
PETA presents a cookbook signing for Betty Goes Vegan, a featuring vegan recipes inspired by Betty Crocker. Authors Dan and Annie Shannon will be on hand to discuss their journey to devising these vegan recipes at 6 pm at Mohawk Bend. Cocktails and a special happy-hour menu of recipes from the book, created by Mohawk Bend chef Erick Simmons will be available for purchase, too.

MORE MUSIC
Pop singer-songwriter Haley Pharo plays the Viper Room with Gaby Ramirez, The Epilogues and The Battle Royale. Doors at 7:30 pm. 21+. $10. And Matmos plays Hollywood Forever tonight; doors at 8 pm. Tickets: $25, free parking onsite.

SCHOOL NIGHT MUSIC
It’s a School Nightwelcomes live music and DJ sets from both up-and-coming and seasoned artists every Monday night at Bardot in Hollywood. Performing live tonight are headlines Chief, with Warships, Angela McCluskey and Tell the Eskimo. DJ sets by Channel One and Ruckus Roboticus. Free with RSVP for those 21+; $10 for 18+ with RSVP. Doors at 8 pm.
