Driving over the Santa Monica Mountains between the beach and the Valley? Avoid Topanga Canyon Boulevard between midnight and 5 a.m.

    Topline:

A stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard has reopened, after a brief closure prompted by a mudslide.

The backstory: The 3.6-mile stretch of Topanga Canyon Boulevard — between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive — has been undergoing maintenance work since the Palisades Fire. This week's rains led to a mudslide.

The mudslide: Earlier Wednesday, Caltrans said the road would be closed "until further notice." Early in the afternoon, the work was done: "Maintenance crews have cleared debris and slide material from the roadway, and it is now reopened to the public with previous restrictions," the agency said in a news release.

Road work ongoing: The road is still closed between midnight and 5 a.m. daily.
