People cast their in-person early ballot for the 2024 general election at the Northwest Activities Center on Oct. 29, 2024, in Detroit.

    Topline:

California Secretary of State Shirley Weber is warning people about unofficial text messages that have left voters believing — incorrectly — that their returned ballots have not been received or processed by county elections officials.

The details: Weber said in a statement that her office has received “numerous reports” from voters that they have gotten “inaccurate” text messages from Ballot Now. “We urge Californians to only trust information shared by my office or their county registrar of voters' office,” Weber said.

LAist sent an email to Ballot Now but has not heard back.

More on Ballot Now: Ballot Now appears to be a website devoted to promoting vote-by-mail. “Let me be clear: Ballot Now is not in any way affiliated with the California Office of the Secretary of State,” Weber said.

Tracking your ballot: It’s easy to track your ballot. Just go here and sign up with the Secretary of State’s office.

Early voting: Mail-in and vote center voting already has begun in the Nov. 4 election.
