Monrovia city officials say a man was hit and killed by a car this morning after fleeing federal immigration agents at a local Home Depot.

Monrovia city officials say a man was hit and killed by a car Thursday morning after fleeing federal immigration agents at a local Home Depot.
Monrovia City Manager Dylan Feik said in a statement posted to the city's website that the man was killed shortly after Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrived at a Home Depot on Mountain Avenue just before 10 a.m.
Department of Homeland Security officials, in a statement to LAist, said there was no connection to "operations in the area."
"This individual was not being pursued by any DHS law enforcement. We do not know their legal status. We were not aware of this incident or notified by California Highway Patrol until hours after operations in the area had concluded," the statement said.
City officials said the man ran from the area, crossed Evergreen Avenue and entered the eastbound 210 Freeway. Soon after, he was hit by a vehicle and later died at the hospital.
As of around noon Thursday, Sheik said the city had not received any information from ICE about the enforcement action. He said he was not aware of any ongoing ICE activity in the area.
"We extend our condolences for the individual and his family," Sheik said in a statement.
Immigration agents' presence at Home Depots in the L.A. area has drawn condemnation in recent weeks, in light of a court order blocking the Trump administration from conducting indiscriminate immigration stops in Southern California. LAist has reached out to Home Depot for comment on the incident.
The identity of the man who died Thursday has not been released
Last month, a farmworker, Jaime Alanís, died after falling off a greenhouse roof during an immigration raid at a marijuana farm in Ventura County.
