For the first time since 2019, wine tastings are back this summer at Barnsdall Art Park in East Hollywood. Located inside the fenced-in West Lawn of the historic Hollyhock House, at the center of the public Barnsdall Art Park, ticket-holders can once again enjoy wine (from Silverlake Wine), music, picnics, and views of the Hollywood sign and Downtown L.A. at sunset.
Why it matters: This was a seasonal tradition for several years, drawing big crowds to the park every Friday night before the pandemic shut things down. The tastings run every Friday from Memorial Day through Labor Day and start at 5:30 p.m.
The backstory: Hollyhock House — designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1921 — is the only UNESCO World Heritage site in Los Angeles (included in a group of eight Frank Lloyd Wright buildings from around the U.S.). And of the nine buildings that Wright designed in Los Angeles, it’s the only one that’s open to the public for tours.

What you need to know
- Tickets for a wine tasting flight are $45 per person
- There are $15 tickets for designated drivers, or anyone who wants to skip the wine tasting
- Parking is limited, so it’s highly recommended that you either take a rideshare or Metro (to the Vermont/Sunset station)
- This is a 21+ event and no pets are allowed
- Four tours of the Hollyhock House are also offered during the tasting events. The house is usually closed to the public in the evenings, but for an additional $25 you can see the interior of the house during these later hours (the last entry is usually at 3:30 p.m. and tickets for tours during regular hours are $3-$7)
- FYI no drinking wine inside the house
As Hollyhock House curator Abbey Chamberlain Brach describes it, it’s “a nice way to get to experience the house with that wonderful sunset golden light… and it is one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.”
The backstory
Hollyhock House — designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and completed in 1921 — is the only UNESCO World Heritage site in Los Angeles (included in a group of eight Frank Lloyd Wright buildings from around the U.S.). The home’s original owner, Aline Barnsdall, gave the home and the surrounding 12 acres to the city of Los Angeles in 1927.
The Barnsdall Art Park wine tastings benefit the Barnsdall Art Foundation, which supports public programming at the park and the maintenance of Hollyhock House.
