  • City Council will vote in response to ICE sweeps

Fullerton, pictured in an overview shot

    Topline:

The Fullerton City Council will vote on whether to offer immigrants rental and legal assistance at the next council meeting in November.

The details: City leaders will vote on two funds — at about $100,000 each — to use toward helping residents affected by ICE sweeps with legal, rental and other costs. Funding could come from either the city’s General Fund (the main checking account for a city) or from discretionary funds. Community members and organizations would also be allowed to donate.

How we got here: Fullerton is going the way of Santa Ana, Anaheim and Costa Mesa, which have all created immigrant aid funds after immigration enforcement actions ramped up under the Trump administration.

What’s next: The Fullerton City Council will vote on the proposal on Nov. 4.

How to keep tabs on the Fullerton City Council: The Fullerton City Council will meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month. Meetings start at 5:30 p.m.
