The Brief

It's another Tuesday takeover, and in today's forecast, the heatwave officially begins and is expected to last through the weekend.

Let's start with the coasts, where it will be the coolest for the next couple of days — the marine layer will continue to provide cloud coverage through the morning burning off to a warm and sunny afternoon with highs in the 70s, 88 degrees in Long Beach and upper 80s to low 90s for the inland coast.

Moving away from the coast interior areas will range from 95 to 105 degrees. The western San Fernando Valley will feel the brunt of this heatwave triggering an excessive heat warning with a high of 109 degrees today. The rest of the valleys will follow that same warning come Wednesday.

Expect a high of 112 degrees in Coachella Valley, where the lows will drop to 86 degrees. In the high desert — expect highs between 98 to 105 degrees, and lows in the mid 70s.

Interior areas will also see little relief from the heat tonight with lows in the mid 70s. Coastal areas will drop to the mid 60s tonight.

Forecasters say the peak of this heatwave will be on Thursday and Friday.

The city of L.A. has opened five cooling centers to help Angelenos beat the heat from 10 a.m .to 9 p.m today through Friday:

And residents in Skid Row can find heat relief at climate stations that provide cold beverages, seating, shade and other resources at these locations:

• Towne St. (between 5th St. & 6th. St.) across from ReFresh Spot
• San Pedro St. mid-block between 6th and 7th Streets
• 5th and Maple
