Get Ready For A Week Of Annoying 'Rogue One' Street Closures In Hollywood
We get it, people really like Star Wars. It's AWESOME. The new movie is going to be so good. May the force be with you!
All that said, we're still having a little trouble wrapping our heads around why the coming premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story could possibly warrant an entire week of street closures in Hollywood. Best guess is that they are gonna build a bunch of crazy shit for a party you won't be invited to, but who knows. The premiere will be held on Saturday at The Pantages Theatre in Hollywood.
The street closures (detailed here) will begin starting at 10 p.m. on Monday, December 5, and will continue until 6 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13.
The main takeaway is that you are going to want to avoid going anywhere near the (already busy) intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street. Hollywood Boulevard will be closed between Ivar Avenue and Vine, and Vine and Argyle Street in both directions from Monday until the following Tuesday, meaning traffic will likely get backed up approaching the closures.
There will also be "soft" closures on Hollywood Boulevard from Ivar to Cahuenga Boulevard and Argyle to Gower Street, meaning the streets will be open but only to local access.
Vine itself will be open during the week, however it will be closed between Hollywood Boulevard and Yucca Street from 9 p.m. on Friday, December 9, until 9 a.m. on Sunday, December 11. Vine will also be also be closed between Sunset Boulevard and Yucca Street from 3 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday, December 10.
The Hollywood Boulevard street closures will also extend on Saturday, with the street closed to westbound traffic between Argyle Avenue and Gower Street from 3:00 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday. Hollywood Boulevard between Cahuenga Boulevard and Ivar Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic from 3 p.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Saturday.
On the plus side, all closed streets will be open to pedestrians, save for on the day of the premiere.
The L.A. City Board of Public Works reports that the city will be deploying additional LAPD and Department of Transportation personnel to the area in and around the closure to ensure safety and maintain accessibility.
As Editor-in-Chief of our newsroom, I’m extremely proud of the work our top-notch journalists are doing here at LAist. We’re doing more hard-hitting watchdog journalism than ever before — powerful reporting on the economy, elections, climate and the homelessness crisis that is making a difference in your lives. At the same time, it’s never been more difficult to maintain a paywall-free, independent news source that informs, inspires, and engages everyone.
Simply put, we cannot do this essential work without your help. Federal funding for public media has been clawed back by Congress and that means LAist has lost $3.4 million in federal funding over the next two years. So we’re asking for your help. LAist has been there for you and we’re asking you to be here for us.
We rely on donations from readers like you to stay independent, which keeps our nonprofit newsroom strong and accountable to you.
No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, press freedom is at the core of keeping our nation free and fair. And as the landscape of free press changes, LAist will remain a voice you know and trust, but the amount of reader support we receive will help determine how strong of a newsroom we are going forward to cover the important news from our community.
Please take action today to support your trusted source for local news with a donation that makes sense for your budget.
