Why Emma Thompson Is The Golden Globes' Spirit Animal
Just give Emma Thompson all of the awards. The Saving Mr. Banks actress stole the show tonight at the Golden Globes.
Thompson got up on stage barefoot with her Christian Louboutins in one hand and a martini in the other to announce the nominees for the best screenplay category. (Yes, she is a bad-ass in every sense of the phrase.) Referencing the red soles of her Louboutins, she said, "I just want you to know: this red—it's my blood."
A little tipsy, but endearingly so, she didn't have the envelope for the nominees on hand. A woman brought over the envelope to the delightful actress, at which point Thompson proceeded to toss her heels behind her, hand the woman her martini, and get into her presenter role for the night.

In addition, she gave the real-life Philomena Lee a standing ovation when Lee was on stage with Philomena actor Steve Coogan director Steven Frears. We approve of that kind of respect.
It doesn't get much better than this though. How about this video of Thompson running barefoot (and apparently screaming) down the red carpet with her daughter Gaia Romilly Wise?

We can see why her buddy Meryl Streep gave Thompson such a stellar introduction at the National Board of Review awards gala in New York on Jan. 7, calling her a "rabid, man-eating feminist."
