New Year's Eve has come and gone--with DUI arrests up but fewer fatal accidents along California's freeways compared to last year--but past experiences point toward the whole weekend being a scary one on the roads. That's why police are keeping up their strict and saturated presence on the streets through Sunday evening.
Tonight, we know of at least one DUI Checkpoint located in the South Park area of downtown Los Angeles. The LAPD is not required to announce checkpoints to the public and press so there may be more out there.
The downtown area saw 58 driving under the influence-related and 672 hit and run traffic collisions in 2009.
