Station Fire Update: Evacuations, School Closures & Other Info

The Station Fire continues to hold the San Gabriel Mountains under siege as the northeastern flank of the 35,000+ acre blaze rages in the Acton area, continues to burn out of control with dangerous hotspots near homes in neighborhoods of La Crescenta, and could pose a threat to Mount Wilson (where 22 broacast stations have communication towers). The fire remains at around the 5% containment level. Here are some updates and information at this hour:
Evacuations
While some evacuation orders were lifted today in Altadena and the Crescenta-Cañada Valleys, many orders remain in effect. Current evacuation areas per InciWeb:
-In La Canada/Flintridge homes east of Jenssen Drive, northeast of Los Amigos St. east of Castle Road and east of Ocean View Road. Also, Briggs Ave to Pennsylvania north of Harmony Place.
-Rockdale area - Briggs north of Rockdale. Altadena - north of Loma Alta between Lake and Canyon Del Drive. Total residencies evacuated - 2000.
-Effective Noon August 30, - West of Arroyo Seco to Palm Drive north of Olive Lane in La Canada.
-Highway 14 - off and on ramps that have been closed are: Soledad Canyon in Canyon Country, Agua Dulce Canyon Road, Escondido Canyon, Red Rover Mine Road and Crown Valley Road.
-Acton, All residences to the south of Soledad Canyon Road from Highway 14 to Crown Valley Road and all residences in Alison Canyon Road from Angeles Forest Highway to Soledad Canyon Road.
Evacuation centers are set up at: Highland High School in Palmdale; Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita and Verdugo Hills High School in Tujunga; Crescenta Valley High in La Crescenta; Jackson Elementary in Altadena; La Cañada High School in La Cañada-Flintridge.
School Closures
Per the La Cañada Unified School District: "In coordination with Fire Command, LCUSD will be postponing the opening of school. All LCUSD schools (Palm Crest Elementary, La Canada Elementary, Paradise Canyon Elementary, La Canada High School, Foothills School) will remain closed on Monday, August 31st. The district plans to open schools on Tuesday, September 1st."
Early this morning the Glendale Unified School District announced they would be postponing the August 31st start of the school year; all GUSD schools are closed tomorrow.

- The Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation, which cares for animals and is located in Acton, needs help getting crates and other equipment to help dogs during the evacuation.
- There have been 5 injuries reported as a result of the Station Fire; 2 people attempting to "ride out" the fire in their hot tub in the Big Tujunga area were airlifted to the Grossman Burn Center in Sherman Oaks yesterday afternoon.
- The weather has been cooler, but shifts in the wind are making the fire's path more unpredictable. The noticeable lack of wind earlier made the aerial strike harder for firefighting personnel, who encountered difficulty navigating the thick smoke hanging over the fire sites. The fire has caused Pyrocumulus clouds to form, which are visible from all over the Los Angeles area.
