Comment of the Week: Screw DWP Water Conservation Laws, We're Urban Farming!
In a discussion about the upcoming trend (and hopefully long-term habit) of residents taking part in urban farming and apartment gardening, commenter trishells points out her illegal use of water under current city ordinances. However, she has a great point:

after almost a year of discussion my bf and i finally started a garden in our back yard. in so cal it's a shame not to if you have the space. it has been ridiculously easy to grow everything (except our arugula which was taken by worms). we have effortlessly been growing green beans, okra, tomatoes, squash, bell peppers, basil, rosemary, and sage. confession: we have not been adhering to the new watering laws. but this is sustenance, i'm not talking about flowers or grass...
If the whole city were to urban farm, it wouldn't necessarily solve our water woes, but it's an interesting thought for discussion. In any case, a broader conversation about sustenance seems like it could easily go hand in hand with expanding upon the five cisterns built by TreePeople and the LADWP.
