  • A closed-door meeting of LAUSD school board today to discuss removing David Brewer as Superintendant netted no decision on the issue. Brewer is facing increasing pressure to step down mid-way through his 4-year contract.
  • Speaking of schools (and their ongoing struggles), all over the state schools are having trouble providing lunches for students in programs set up to provide them with the meals gratis or at a lowered rate.
  • This afternoon the judge presiding over the case of former OC Sheriff Mike Carona made the decision to separate his trial with that of his former mistress, Debra Hoffman. Not to be confused with his wife, Deborah, whose trial was previously decided to be held separately. Being allegedly corrupt can be so confusing!
  • It was an unfortunate ending earlier this afternoon when man and machine met mother nature in the form of a tree in Arcadia.
  • Over at Ron Kaye's LA, the "LA Watchdog" takes the LA Times to task for their coverage of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's Obama cabinet job seeking potential, noting that they fail to acknowledge the fact that being willing to "tell all" might be why Mayor Tony is not looking for a gig in DC (remember this?).
  • So why might the Lake Avenue Gold Line station not be the best place for a bike?
  • Better to run than be hit: Toda in Riverside 2 people managed to flee from a vehicle before a Metrolink train crashed into it. The two women who escaped the car before impact as well as the passengers on board the train were all unharmed.
  • Director Roman Polanski, who has been living abroad in exile for the past three decades has filed a motion in Los Angeles to have the child molestation charges against him dismissed.

That always made me think that if the sheriff just happened to yell out the wrong name in the heat of passion, no one but him would know.

( and the two Debs almost look like they could be clones!)
