  • Weekend shootings: One each in Compton and Paramount, and one in Riverside.
  • Police in Riverside are investigating the suspicious death of a 38-year-old Fallbrook man whose body was found in an SUV parked near the 10 Freeway.
  • 3 members of a San Pedro-based tagging crew were put behind bars for their part in multiple taggings of the 110 Freeway. It will be tough for one of them to play the "wasn't me!" card since he "was caught writing on a wall in a holding cell shortly after he was arrested."
  • Blame it on the DNA: A convicted sex offender who had hopes of being paroled soon was sentenced to life in prison for the 1985 murder of a 19-year-old Anaheim waitress. The case had been unsolved for over 20 years until the DNA linked Lynn Dean Johnson, 52, to the murder.
  • The cops had to intervene to break up a gang "melee" that took place in the witching hour in North Hollywood. Gunshots were fired, and seven men were taken into custody.
  • Okay, this is far flung both geographically and in terms of plans, but a pair were busted out in Apple Valley for dismantling stadium seats to steal them for their aluminum. It was also a sort of May-December pair; one man was 18, the other 50. Yay, mentoring!
  • There will be no horned hats, metal breastplates, pillaging, or operas invading our city. At least that's what the headline "Vikings not interested in L.A." might mean to non-sports fans. To football fans, well, sorry folks, there won't be a team from Minnesota moving here.
  • Well, the principal didn't like it, but the students sure did. LA Now went to Walter Reed Middle School and found out most of them didn't mind that their well-kept institution was projected on the green screen, and that they knew it was just a flub.

"[...] there won't be a team from Minnesota moving here."

You mean there won't be another team moving here...

Ha! I was just thinking, " um, what about the LAKERS?" damn beat me to it.

What is so great about DNA testing is that it knows no politics or loyalty.

When done correctly, it will set the innocent free and convict the guilty and even clear suspects .

Truth and justice is its only master - WHEN IT IS DONE CORRECTLY.

When discovered that tests were done incorrectly, it only compounds injustices.

okay Lakers fans... settle down. It says "To football fans" re: a team from Minnesota, namely the Vikings. Football, people.

But, did you know that the team actually originated in Detroit as the Gems, then moved to Minneapolis in '47? And they aren't called the Lakers because of all the lakes in Minnesota... they're named for the cargo ships that carried supplies across the Great Lakes following WW2.
