Dave Matthews Band Member Dies in Los Angeles

Dave Matthews Band LeRoi Moore saxophone player diesDave Matthews Band sax player, LeRoi Moore, died earlier this afternoon at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center "from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia," according to a statement given to TMZ.

Moore, 46, lived in Los Angeles and had returned to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program after the June 30th accident that left him with a punctured a lung and some broken ribs.

Although Moore usually played saxophone with the band, he was a multi-instrumentalist who also played the flute, bass clarinet and wooden penny whistle.

According to his bio on the Dave Matthews Band website, Moore arranges most of the songs Matthews writes. "Jazz is probably my main influence," he says of himself. "But at this stage I don't really consider myself a jazz musician. I have plenty of space to improvise, to try new ideas."

The band, who was scheduled to play tonight at the Staples Center, is still scheduled to play.
