This doesn't even look like a crosswalk, but this is is a scramble crosswalk in Tokyo | Photo by Julie Wolfson/LAist
If you felt your neighborhood should deserve one of those new scramble crosswalks, which allows for diagonal crossing at intersections (see a video example here), there's more than just the one in Westwood Village announced the other day (and the older one near USC). Here's the list of ten scramble crosswalks planned across the city, thanks to Steve Hymon at the Bottleneck Blog:
- Le Conte and Westwood (debuting Thursday in Westwood around 9:30 a.m.)
- Broxton and Weyburn (Westwood)
- 11th and Maple (downtown)
- 12th and Maple (downtown)
- 11th and Santee (downtown)
- 12th and Santee (downtown)
- Pacific and Windward (Venice)
- Hoover and Jefferson (Exposition Park)
- Jefferson and McClintock (Exposition Park)
- Erwin and Owensmouth (Woodland Hills)
Your neighborhood left out? Like one commenter said yesterday, he feels there should be one at Santa Monica and Fairfax, among many other locations. We feel Ventura and Sepulveda could benefit from one. What say you? List your picks in the comments section.

Pasadena has a couple in Old Town
Yeah, those Pasadena ones have been good to the people.
Without being a traffic engineering expert here, I'm going to add the big obvious here. Shouldn't Hollywood & Highland get a scramble crosswalk too?
Crossing at that intersection in Shibuya was amazing.
Yeah, like the others have said, we've had these types of crosswalks in Pasadena for a while. I think they're a good idea. I'm sure it saves lives as well, cutting down on pedestrian-car collisions.
I agree with Zach - H&H would be a great place for a scramble crosswalk.
7th and Fig is a no-brainer.
I'll echo both Hollywood and Highland and 7th and Figueroa. PLEASE.
best location for a scramble crosswalk? easy. the insane intersection at virgil, hollywood, and sunset. it take at least 10 minutes to cross sometimes.
the westwood one really confused me today!
what happened neonspecs?
