• The former manager of a WeHo marijuana dispensary was sentenced today to 5 years probation for "maintaining drug-related premises" on North La Brea known as the Yellow House.
• Tonya Mae Schaefer of Alhambra also received her sentence today; the 43-year-old will now serve 25 to life for the murder and abandonment of her newborn baby in 2006.
• It's a not guilty plea for a Santa Ana teacher whose .38 handgun was found in her classroom by an 8-year-old student at Diamond Elementary School earlier this month.
• A grandmother holding her 2 year old grandson was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street in Garden Grove. The 70-year-old is visiting from Korea, and although has been hospitalized, is not expected to survive.
• However, some elderly women aren't as fragile, like the 90-year-old Norwalk woman who now stands accused of beating her son's dog to death with a garden shovel.
• Today is the last day for Dutton's in Brentwood, and now comes the news that Santa Ana's indie bookshop Libreria Martinez might have to close the book on retailing.
