Found in LA: Gas Prices... Way High

Gas prices at an all-time record high price in Los Angeles and California$3.55 for unleaded. Check, albeit annoying.

$3.79 for performance plus. Ugh, okay, check.

$9.38 a gallon for high performance. Che-- wha???!?!?!!!?

LAist Featured Photos photographer Movie Lover snapped this shot on the Westside. "While driving past a gas station in Brentwood, CA a while back, I noticed that the price had gone up. Way up." Yeah, no doubt.

Let's see, April Fool's Day is next month. It's not a six upside down. This doesn't look like natural gas. And diesel only hit $4/gallon today in some parts of California.

Is this some kind of harbinger? Or a crude mistake? In a report this morning, KABC said that "some analysts expect prices to rise to near $4 a gallon as summer driving picks up."

As of this morning, the Los Angeles average per unleaded gallon was $3.52, $3.46 in Orange County, $3.52 for the Inland Empire and a $3.51 in Ventura County.

so it would be $100 to fill up my honda? i think i'll go with unleaded plus instead.

I'm thinking a little dyslexia gotta hold of the number-putter-upper. It should probably read $3.98. Or at least let's hope so.

Indeed, let's hope Will! It's good you're on a bike and I'm on it part-time, kinda (bad zach)

for all you Prius drivers out there, High Performance is 100 octane racing fuel. It is expensive.

Name that 76 station. I'm thinking San Vicente and 26th street.

That is the 76 at San Vicente and Bundy because that is the station that sells 100 Octane Fuel - as noted above.

"High Performance is 100 octane racing fuel. It is expensive."

Actually, it depends on the station. Most stations don't carry 100 octane. My local 76 doesn't, unfortunately. But there are some around--maybe it is running that much

Jacob, it totally is, I just filled up there today!

Wow, you guys are good. That is exactly where I took the photo.

[Shout Out to Kim Cooper and the Save the 76 Ball movement.]

Could the suspension of a car that runs on 100 Octane even survive the journey to get the gas?

excellent question Maxwell. Perhaps one of the reasons people buy SUVs in this city is the crappy condition of the streets.

Save the 76 ball, indeed.

It's not the Bundy station, as I'm pretty sure they now have a new and red 76 ball, if they have one at all.

Sorry, here's the proper link to my report on saving the 76 balls.

@bdog: Oh please. You can buy 100 octane at any airport that supports general aviation for $4.50/gal at today's prices.

The last one might be selling by topless models...
