Guide to February Rock Music Residencies

Month-long residencies are one of the best ways to catch up-and-coming bands in Los Angeles. You have at least four times to catch a band, and each time, if they are gaining popularity over each show, it will be harder to see them. Last Thursday at their final residency concert, The Airborne Toxic Event played a sold out show with another 300 fans not getting in at the door. That's how crazy residencies can be. Catch 'em while you can. Here's your February line-up:

Mondays
The Henry Clay People @ The Echo (Free), Echo Park
Rickie Lee Jones @ Echoplex ($20-25), Echo Park
NOTE: Shows Canceled due to Sickness:Robert Francis @ Silverlake Lounge (Free), Silver Lake
Pity Party @ Spaceland (Free), Silver Lake
Smash Fashion & DJ Audio Puppet @ Crash Mansion ($3), Downtown
We Barbarians @ Detroit Bar (Free), Costa Mesa

Wednesdays
Halestorm @ Viper Room ($10), West Hollywood
The Weather Underground @ Silverlake Lounge ($8), Silver Lake
Brian Wright & The Waco Tragedies @ Hotel Cafe ($10), Hollywood

Thursdays
The Vacation @ Viper Room ($10), West Hollywood
The Entrance Band @ Silverlake Lounge ($13), Silver Lake

Sundays
Alex & Sam @ Tangier ($10), Los Feliz

Also! Josh Haden (Spain , Blue Man Group, Handsome Boy Modeling School) is doing weekly duties at the Nova Express Cafe on Wednesdays beginning 2/13. Admission is a cool $0.

Don't forget to add Black Tuesdays at the Pig N Whistle in Hollywood.

Improv noise jazz electronic analog madness and some good music to drink to.

As much as I love Nova Express, their website does not reflect what you're saying, starsonesp, nor does Haden's MySpace.

There seems to be a lot of restaurant residencies as well, so it's a good idea.

90039, thanks, but I think Black Tuesdays is a weekly event, not a band, right? And once again, not much success with Pig & Whistle's website either.

Sad days for Hollywood restaurant websites.

Zach: Check out Haden's other MySpace page as Dead Sea Scrolls. The residency is listed there.

(It's also noted on his personal concert schedule. Spain played a mean-ass gig at Taix last week featuring almost the entirety of their seminal 1995 album, The Blue Moods of Spain.)
