Ryan Seacrest on the Red Carpet...for the Super Bowl???

Unless you've been in a coma for the past few weeks, the Super Bowl is on Fox tomorrow afternoon around 3ish. But we heard an annoying tidbit the other day and just needed to ask, "Why?" As in "Why is Ryan Seacrest drawn to red carpets like my dog is to the patch of grass at the end of my street?"

Yup, the KIIS-FM DJ and American Idol host will be doing the pre-game show highlights for Fox from the Super Bowl's red carpet. Say...what? Why is there even a red carpet at the Super Bowl?

FOX is going with a new format this year for the pre-game show – Seacrest will host a live red carpet and interview celebrities as they head into the game. It's an experiment, and Seacrest discussed the possible perils of combining football and a red carpet. Of course, he also managed to include some American Idol tidbits in the conference call, including Paula Abdul's scheduled pre-game performance.

Pretty lame experiment if you ask us. We can just hear the awkwardness now:

Seacrest: Giselle, Giselle, what a great football jersey you're wearing! I'll bet that number 12 for your main man Tom Brady...
Giselle: (silence)
Seacrest: So tell me, is that a Champion or Reebok?
Giselle: Ryan, don't give up your day job.
Seacrest: Well, speaking of American Idol, stay tuned for my buddy Paul Abdul lipsync sing her new single, "Dance Like There's No Tomorrow."
Giselle: Look, there's Paris HIlton!
Seacrest: Where?

(She runs into her private box as quickly as possible.)
