Extra, Extra: The Eschaton Edition

• As winds died down Sunday, firefighters gained the upper hand on the Malibu blaze that burned at least 49 homes and sent thousands fleeing. It is now 70% contained and officials expect full containment by Tuesday. The damage could run close to $100 million.
  
• Firefighters rescued a father and his 4-year-old son in a Sun Valley home that burned down this morning. The father got his wife and daughter out of the house, but, upon going back in for his son, was disoriented, necessitating his rescue. The fire began after a space heater fell over in a room, firefighters said.
  
• Though this has been one of the driest years on record, the LA River has been flowing, relatively speaking. Its recycled water is creating a haven for birds who love must love that musky smell of run-off water from sewers spewing into the city's water line.
  
• TwoLAPD officers were injured when their car overturned this morning near Burbank.
  
• A 3.1 earthquake rocked Coachella valley today. Reportedly, it was too small for most residents to feel, but that fault line seems to be getting more active all the time. Time to glue down those picture frames...
  
• If you skipped the stores on Black Friday, retailers have got your back. And by that I mean their hand in your back pocket. The National Retail Federation dubbed tomorrow 'Cyber Monday', hoping to get people to buy shit online as they return to work from the Thanksgiving holiday. I can't wait for 'Credit Card Wednesday,' 'She Better Love That Gift Friday' and 'I'm Broke Sunday.'
  
• The Boston Globe interviewed Frank McCourt, owner of your Los Angeles Dodgers. The most reassuring part of the interview was when he expressed his unwillingness to trade away the young core of the Dodgers-James Loney, Matt Kemp, Russell Martin, et al-for one player. I like the sentiment, but I've been hurt by the Dodgers before. We all remember the Fox regime, that dark, bleak moment in Dodger history.
  
• Dennis Rodman was sued for slapping someone on the ass and rubbing up against her body. Maybe he was just doing the Bavarian Ass Slapping Dance. On another note, I love the Internet.
