KT Tunstall @ WGA Strike, Disney Gates, 11/14/07

kt tunstall plays to the striking writers of the wga in burbank in front of the disney gates

KT Tunstall was supposed to play Leno and Carson Daly's shows this week while she was in town. But since the strike happened she figured "how about playing in front of NBC?" When a better location down the street in front of the Disney gates was suggested she took her guitar and tambourine and supported the writers with three tunes, two of her own, and in the video below you will see her do a 70s classic.

After the jump tons of pictures from today's rally in Burbank.

The strikers had some nice tshirts.

All the best shows were represented.

The sweet signs were out in full force.

The press interviewed the striking writers.

KT arrived around 3pm and the photographers and press and strikers gathered around her and it was nearly a Britney moment of "omg the celeb"! But people were professional and chilled out.

Then she stood on top of her guitar case, did her big hit from a few years back and asked people if they wanted a cover tune or another one of her songs. The crowd asked for one of her songs and she really seemed surprised, so she played her new hit. Then she covered the Jackson 5.

It was hot, it was quick, and it was really fun.

I could care less about an already wealthy writer making more money. This is a classic case of lesser of two evils. The writers are lucky that people hate studios and networks more than rich artists. The only writers who profit from their demands are WORKING writers i.e. ones who already make good money. I would be more sympathetic if this was about the struggling ones.

By the way, no one outside of L.A. cares. And I don't even think most of L.A. cares.

I just feel sorry for all of the people losing their jobs.

Those are awesome photos and -- yeah -- I totally couldn't name that cover song in 5 notes like I thought I'd be able to. Great stuff.

Guffie, I don't understand the "already wealthy writer making more money" line. I think many writers of all stripes look up to KT because she'd been writing songs for years before her break -- she was probably 30 when she was first heard outside the UK, she went to college, played all kinds of music, and never bothered dating anyone in Take That or got on Pop Idol.

It's actually pretty cool and I think photos of her showing solidarity with the tank top, etc has a positive effect.

sorry Andy, I meant the strike in general, not KT Tunstall who is awesome for supporting something she believes in.

I think I'm bitter because a bunch of my friends lost jobs.

dont be so bitter Guffie, in the entertainment biz, if you haven't "lost" a job 2-3 times a year you're not working on the right shows.

even well-paid, working talent goes on unemployment several times a year.

as soon as the strike is over, the machine will snort back into commission and the 16 hour days will be back. your friends should enjoy this good weather while they can.

Fun! And it's great to see KT showing her support. I shall do some extra honking today.
