Extra Extra: I'll Just Take What Everybody Else is Too Good For
- " "Just because you've rolled horse manure in powdered sugar doesn't mean you have a doughnut": people aren't very happy with the Farm Bill, and yet the Senate still seems set on passing a totally inadequate "reformed" bill that continues to subsidize Big Agriculture at the expense of our nation's health.
- City officials are "identifying" Muslim communities across the city -- but it's not profiling, it's "community engagement"!! Those kooky kids at City Hall! Always reaching out.
- Our sister site to the north has been keeping track of the terrible oil spill that happened earlier this week in the San Francisco Bay. Hundreds of birds have been killed or injured so far.
- NBC only announced its plans to move out to Universal City a month ago, and already people are talking about problems with construction and traffic congestion. Officials are already trying to negotiate the project down to a smaller size.
- Hey writer strike scabs! Need a job? So does everybody else on Craigslist! Here's a gem: "I don't care what kind of job it is, I don't care if you "screw me" I just want to pay next months rent. I'm really a non union guy. In my mind, unions are akin communism. This is why movies cost $15 at theatres. Everybody wants more. I'll just take what everybody else is too good for if you don't mind."
- Oh god no, not the PUPPIES! Christ, not the puppies! An evil man in La Mirada stole $18,000 worth of cute little doggies from a pet store earlier this week.
- Do you worry about global warming? If you're like 7 in 10 Californians, you do. But 9 out of 10 of us believe that we can be a force for change in the global effort for conservation.
- This made us laugh: "MapQuest does not work here. None of the roads are where they say they are, or go where they say they do. All of the freeway off- and on-ramps are moved each night." After missing a freeway on ramp at Burbank Blvd. one day and ending up somewhere in the LA River -- yeah, I'd have to agree.
