Famed for her Appalachia-meets-avant-garde folk style, Joanna Newsom has wide range of sounds that include her classical harp roots to playing with Nervous Cop (noise rock trio that features Deerhoof's Greg Saunier and Hella's Zach Hill) and San Francisco based, The Pleased.
This Friday, she will be playing at the Walt Disney Concert Hall with 28-piece orchestra conducted by Sean O'Loughlin, featuring arrangements by Van Dyke Parks. And you have a chance to be there to experience Newsom's awesome repertoire.
We are giving away a pair or tickets to Friday night's 8:00 p.m. concert. In the name of arts patronage and how it affects local economies, all you have to do to enter this contest is leave a comment on this post telling us what Downtown Los Angeles restaurant you are likely to pick if you were to have some dinner before or after seeing Joanna Newsom at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The contest ends on Thursday at 12 p.m. and you must be available to respond to an e-mail by 4:00 p.m. the same day if you are chosen to win.

would it be all right if i just skipped eating downtown and went to el compadre in echo park instead?
probably go early and get some dim sum over at ABC seafoood,
redwood bar! for the awesomely deep fried portobello mushroom/goat cheese burger. it's also walking distance to the disney concert hall.
Dinner at the Pantry fo sho!
probably Pete's...
Phillip's for some french dip and coffee.
What time does Philippe's close?? Or maybe Nick & Stef's? Hmmm... I guess I'm craving red meat!
I think I'd swing by Sushi Go 55 on the way to the show... They have the most exotic selections!
Sushi Go 55 - more info ยป
333 S Alameda St # 317, Los Angeles, CA
(213) 687-0777 - Rated 4.5 out of 5.0
La Luz Del Dia on Olvera Street - tourist trap, I know, but my cousin and his family own and run the place. Handmade tortillas!
On second thought... I haven't been to Nick & Stef's in years and it looks like the recent reviews are not so hot. Philippe's is still my first choice but someone else posted it while I was typing my original post...Hrumpf!
Suehiro for some late night yakisoba and plum wine ice cream.
Colori Kitchen at 8th and Olive is the best little Italian place in town for the price.
Noes at the Omni Hotel!
Takumi for some post Joanna sushi!
I've never been there, but I'm thinking about Traxx at Union Station. It's not cheap, but looks fancy and the atmosphere looks romancey. I recommend taking the Red Line/Gold Line/Bus to Union Station, eating at Traxx, and the taking the Red Line to the Civic Center Station (a block away from Disney Hall) to enjoy the show.
PS - You can count me out of the contest, I've already got tickets (unless these are rad front orchestra tickets, then you can count me in hehe)
if I'm going to Gehry's Disney Concert Hall, why not go to R-23 where they have Gehry's chairs...
I'd go to the Weiland Brewery. Fill up on garlic fries and some tasty micro-brews.
I will then woo Ms. Newsom with my amazing breath.
I'd have to go to one of my favorite places downtown....Clifton's. Can't beat that Smokey in the woods ambiance!
The Edison. They have some amazing cocktails!
Daikokuya for some noodles and warm sake.
(don't count me in on the contest, but I wanted to add):
I second Clifton's, cause it's crazy cheap and surreal.
p.s. Zach you always have the best ideas for contests!!! this is giving me so many great ideas for downtown eats.
Let's make it a Gehry night, I'd go to R-23, and sit on a Gehry chair-- after waiting an hour for a seat.
I won't even lie...the Koo Koo Roo's on Figueroa
Zip Sushi !!
Noรฉ Restaurant
I'm in love with Joanna Newsom. I asked her to marry me over myspace, but then she deleted her account. :(
Sadddiieeeeeee
Patina (if d is paying!)
There are a LOT of cool-sounding restaurants downtown I've been meaning/wanting to try, and would love to go to (Blue Velvet, J, the new-ish one on top of the building with the sweet views..Takami..?).
However, more than likely I'll get some carnitas tacos from that dude who sells them on Broadway near 5th--cheap & delicious.
I'm thinking a nice light snack at Lost Soul's off Pershing Square.
Mmm, this is making me hungry.
We typically skip the L.A. city eateries and head back to the South Bay to Norms. Yeah -- that's how I roll.
Easy - Haru Ulala in Little Tokyo. Yummy Japanese "tapas" and beer, open til 2am!
If downtown proper, then Pete's. If just a bit outside, then El Taurino.
Friday night, we'll arrive downtown just after six and grab an empty meter on Grand. We'll walk down to McCormick and Schmick's for their tasty and cheap Happy Hour menu. We'll stumble up the hill to Disney's - with visions of old Bunker Hill victorians dancing in our souls - and slide into our free seats thanks to LAist. After the Joanna Newsom enchantment, we'll slip over to Pete's at 4th and Main for some midnight macaroni and cheese with Stoli martinis. Can't beat a Friday night like that with a stick.
It's gonna be the red line to 7th/metro center, then a couple of blocks to Yorkshire Grill (with the best sandwiches you'll ever eat. and yeah, that includes Phillippe's on Alameda). After that, Famima!! for Bearded Papas and then then then finally Joanna Newsom.
Casey's pub on Grand. Nothing to do with the show, I just like Guinness.
I'm a late night kinda guy so it's all about Full House in Chinatown!
a perfect night includes cole slaw from the pantry! Ohhhhhhhh Joanna.
The York on York for some beer and pub food.
I would check out the new place on Fig called Riordan's Tavern. Next door to the Pantry. Walked by last week and a sign outside said "homemade onion rings"!
Wow, what a show. I gotta go!
I'd eat at Seranata De Garabaldi.
I'll have to echo a few other people on this list and say Phillippe's...their dip sandwiches coupled with their mustard is so delicious.
the subway at the bonaventure hotel...you know...the one with beer...why? because im broke jerk.
I'd probably stop at Kung Poa Bistro on the way there because I'm craving their veg orange 'chicken'. I want to go to this show!!!
I would have some neo-freak folk salad at AOC :D THen some awesome dessert
el cholo!
The taco hut, Tacos Mexico?, across the street from La Cita. LOVE JOANNA!
Nick & Stef's Steakhouse Restaurant - great place for happy hour and loungin' with the b
Before the show:
Sushi Gen
Daikokuya
Takumi
After the show:
BCD Tofu House
Pacific Dining Car
Pete's Cafe and Bar on S. Main St.
I would LOVE to go to this show!!!
El Korita taco truck on Olympic and Herbert
I'll go for the Vietnamese at Blossom, although I might opt for the takeout because of the area.
The Pantry!
If Friday was payday, I'd go to Izayoi on Central for piles of yummy, Jonathan Gold-approved izakaya-style dishes.
But since it's not, I'll go to Suehiro on First for cheaper but almost-as-yummy down-home Japanese cooking.
Both accompanied by as much Kirin beer as my bank account allows...
pacific dining car
i would go to mode, the french diner. you probably dont know about it, cause it hasnt opened yet, but it will when i say so. its at ninth and olive. or will be. its ready, its all set, it just hasnt opened. hes just writing what i tell him to.
Cicada...hands down.
yeah I'm gonna have to say phillipe's as well
I will just kill my dinner with karate! ;)
Cicada!
The Pantry.
For some good ole comfort food, a cup of coffee, and fried bread.
in downtown: royal clayton's for some mac & cheese!
outside downtown (echo park): Elf!
