Extra, Extra: Don't forget to turn your lights off tonight
- If you leave any lights on tonight between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., your house is going to burn down because the DWP is going to oversurge the system to punish people who hate the environment. Just kiddin', but keep Lights Out LA in mind when the clock strikes eight.
- If you put your mind to it, anything can happen, right? Ventura County's chief executive, Johnny Johnston who is retiring, is credited with returning financial and structural stability to a $1.7-billion county government that at one point was in such disarray that a predecessor declared it ungovernable and left after only four days on the job.
- When the it comes to LAPD use of force reports, they are so transparent, you look and can't seem to see them (must be a Halloween thing). That's because they're not there, despite the commission saying they would two ears ago. That means 200 incidents are pretty much unknown to the public.
- Go California, go! "California will sue the Bush administration next week in a bid to force the Environmental Protection Agency to allow the state to issue greenhouse gas regulations for automobiles." (h/t Siel)
- An interesting poke for the top Dem competition: The largest union in California, the Service Employees International Union, publicly threw its weight behind John Edwards’s bid for the Democratic presidential nomination on Friday.
- Once again with Sherman Way: drunk, road rage and stupidity ruin a golf course fence.
- More un-fun news for criminals in cars: two men being chased by police in Palos Verdes last night failed to stick to the road. And in RPV, that sometimes means you're going off a cliff.
