Extra, Extra: Get Ready to Read, Silver Lake
- Volume at the Los Angeles port, the biggest in the U.S., is expected to drop for the first time in four years. Experts attributed the decline to the slumping housing market and continued loss of confidence in imported goods. I don't pretend to be an expert, but we'll cheer up when they stop putting plastic in their toys.
- A woman was arrested and charged with murder, stemming from an incident in which she allegedly shot and killed a man 13-years ago. The man she shot died last month, the coroner finding his death was directly related to the shooting thereby ruling it a homicide.
- San Fernando is getting its first female Sergeant since 1970. If that ain't progress, I don't know what is.
- People, we're not doing so well, NPR tells us. According to the report, research has shown that a) Americans are bad at assessing their performance and skills because we are, b) overconfident which, c) is dragging us down. Fuck off, I think we're doing just fine!
- A 16-year-old La Canada girl is in custody after running a red light in Burbank and crashing into another car, killing the other driver. Can we please now raise the driving age to 18?
- Lew Wasserman got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today. Nothing says Well Done like dedicating a dingy star on a cruddy boulevard sure to become a homeless man's bed tonight.
- Silver Lake is getting its first library, officials announced. The library, located at the corner of Silver Lake and Glendale boulevards, is an environmentally friendly, 13,600 square foot building sure to be stocked with every rock and roll biography from Louis Armstrong to Frank Zappa.
- Dozens of Laguna Nigel renters were evacuated out of their homes because the ground underneath their apartment was moving. Officials chalked up the shift to movement in an underground fault line. I thought earthquakes were fun!
