- The chairman of the Cal State Long Beach journalism department on Friday was ousted after criticizing an idea broached by a college dean to eliminate print editions of the campus newspaper. He may have also been a poor leader.

Regarding that LA Times article about LAUSD schools building too close to freeways: Where else should these schools be built? Can we raze a couple of houses in the suburbs that sell for significantly over a half a million to build desperately needed schools to alleviate the severe overcrowding? No? OK, then give us the cheaper land. Oh, that's right, it's by the freeways.
I'm sorry. I'm a teacher. And I'm irritated.
