Visiting Washington D.C. during the summer is like reliving all your high school field trip nightmares. Every snotty-nosed kid and their mother was there. Despite the heat, humidity, and the rampant smell of Republican carcass, I had a great time.
When Maryland and Virginia donated some land for Charles L'Enfant to build Washington D.C., as a capital city for this nation, I don't think they envisioned the polarity and contrast that metropolitan east coast city would infuse. DC is a city rich in history but stuck in a neitherland. It is neither a southern city or a northern city. It is diverse, but also segregated. It is a rich, but also poor. It is a hotbed for tourism and opportunity, but despair and violence doesn't seem to far.
Highlights included:
- The Wolfgang Tillmans exhibit at the Hirschorn Museum.
- Flicking off G.W.'s motorcade as he passed us by.
- Getting almost arrested while participating in an impromptu protest in The Capitol Building.
- Peeing on the Republican National Committee building, shhhhh.
- Mooning the Lincoln Memorial.
- Having my friend give a BJ to the Washington Monument.
- Dancing all night to Ferry Corsten at Fur.
- Eating the best Spanokopita ever.

Wow, your photos are fantastic. That white house one proves great photography is all in the perspective. And the train station! Wow!
One of my fave tourist spots was going to the hotel where Reagan got shot. There just happened to be a limo there, and the foreign ambassador let me pretend to step out of it so we could re-enact the photo. I love DC!
Former DC resident here. Just two comments:
1) Love the Metro shot.
2) Ben's Chili Bowl is not on your list, which means you didn't visit DC. Just Washington. The locals know the difference.
Do yourself a favor and do a quick edit of this article's text. The photos are excellent, but... "It is a rich, but also poor." Please, fix that.
